Airport Taxi, Train or Drive Yourself? How to Choose

Every route to the airport has trade-offs. Here’s how they compare.

    Taxi

    • Door to door, with no changes and no carrying bags through stations.
    • Fixed price when you book in advance, so you know the fare before you travel.
    • Good for early-morning or late-night flights, when public transport is limited.
    • Often better value when you’re travelling as a group and splitting the fare.

    Train

    • Can be cheap for solo travellers who live near a direct line.
    • Delays, strikes and engineering works can disrupt journeys.
    • Awkward with heavy luggage, children or mobility needs.

    Driving and parking

    • Flexible, but parking, fuel and tolls add up on longer trips.
    • You’ll need to allow time to park and get to the terminal.
    • You have to drive home after a long flight when you may be tired.

    So which is best?

A taxi tends to win when you have luggage, a group, an early start or a late arrival. A train can suit a light-packing solo traveller near a good line.

Whichever you choose, leave plenty of time. We offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before pick-up, so booking early costs you nothing. Get your fixed fare.

  • Heathrow Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5: Which One Is Your Flight Using?

Heathrow Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5: Which One Is Your Flight Using?

Heathrow has four passenger terminals: 2, 3, 4 and 5. Going to the wrong one is one of the most common ways travellers lose time before a flight.

    How to find your terminal

    • Check your booking confirmation or e-ticket. The terminal is usually printed on it.
    • Check your airline’s website or app, or the airport’s live flight information page.
    • Terminals can change, so check again 24 hours before you travel.

    Getting dropped off

Tell your driver the terminal number, not just “Heathrow”. Drivers can pull up at the departures area closest to your check-in desk, which saves you carrying luggage between terminals.

    Getting picked up

Arrivals can take a while after landing because of passport control and baggage reclaim. If you’ve booked with us, we monitor your flight, so your driver knows if you land early or late. Meet your driver at the agreed meeting point, or ask for meet and greet when you book.

If you end up at the wrong terminal

Free transfers run between terminals, but this adds time. Allow extra if you need to switch.
